IP65, IP66, IP67, and IP68 are Ingress Protection (IP) ratings used to classify and specify the level of protection that an electrical or electronic device offers
against the intrusion of dust and water. Each of these ratings indicates a different level of protection, with higher numbers offering more protection.
Here's a breakdown of the differences between these IP ratings:
IP65:
Protection Against Dust: Dust-tight (no ingress of dust).
Protection Against Water: Protected against water jets from any direction (limited ingress permitted).
IP66:
Protection Against Dust: Dust-tight (no ingress of dust).
Protection Against Water: Protected against high-pressure water jets from any direction (limited ingress permitted). It offers a higher level of water
protection compared to IP65.
IP67:
Protection Against Dust: Dust-tight (no ingress of dust).
Protection Against Water: Protected against immersion in water up to 1 meter (3.3 feet) for 30 minutes. It provides better water protection than IP65 and IP66.
IP68:
Protection Against Dust: Dust-tight (no ingress of dust).
Protection Against Water: Protected against complete submersion in water beyond 1 meter (3.3 feet) depth for a specified time (usually longer than 30 minutes).
IP68 offers the highest level of both dust and water protection among these ratings.
In summary, as the IP rating numbers increase, the level of protection against both dust and water intrusion also increases. IP68 provides the most robust protection,
suitable for devices that may be exposed to harsh environmental conditions, such as underwater equipment or rugged outdoor electronics. However, the specific
requirements and testing criteria may vary depending on the standard or manufacturer, so it's important to check the product's documentation for precise details
regarding its IP rating.
